VENTEVÆRELSET

The artist collective Venteværelset was formed in the spring of 2020, with isolation as a practical condition, artistic dogma and creative fuel. While the pandemic forced cultural institutions to cancel shows, it also encouraged thirteen young opera singers, classical musicians, blog artists, playwright and director to unite around one common vision. The goal of the collective is to open a room for reflection on the loneliness, anxiety and lack of future for the society in lockdown. Its medium is the drama, sensitivity and musicality of the opera.

Venteværelset collectively experiments with new means of creating, conveying and democratising opera. Their mobile genre-hybrid of baroque music, contemporary movements and freaky neon colours explores the limits of the genre, and seeks to find new local audiences - outside traditional opera houses - in courtyards, playgrounds, libraries and other urban venues.

Venteværelset works across mediums and allows their aesthetic and universe to live on in the blog venteværelset.com, which exhibits the collective's artistic work and emotional reflections on the strange time in which we are living.
